Borgo San Daniele

Cormons (GO) - Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy

Established in 1990 by siblings Alessandra and Mauro Mauri, Borgo San Daniele Estate Winery and Agritourism owes its name to the hamlet in Cormòns, right in the heart of the world-renowned winegrowing region where its located.

Stretching from the foot of Monte Quarin, from whose top you can get a glimpse of the Adriatic sea beyond, in the range of 7 kilometres over verdant plains of River Isonzo, so sacred to the memory of the European peoples, lie thriving vineyards of Borgo San Daniele.

The four elements of nature: water, earth, air, and fire, meet and intermingle here in the north-eastern edge of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, where the Collio hills border with Slovenia, creating a microclimate and terroir that make it the ideal area for the production of great wines.

Alessandra and Mauro Mauri have chosen to embrace the favourable properties of this territory, practising ahead-of-it’s-time natural viticulture that does not make use of invasive interventions in the vineyards but, on the contrary, enhances natural grass cover crops, green pruning and cluster thinning, as well as long fermentation on the yeasts, bottling without filtering, and natural static settling of the wine.

Winegrowing and winemaking at BorgosanDaniele do not follow the trends and demands of the market but the cycles and the needs of the land; this is why we have chosen to focus our production on just a few labels.

We follow biodynamic principles and craft wines from native grapes that naturally thrive in the area, respecting the rhythms and balance of the land and taking advantage of the orientation and altitude of the vineyards.

We have also chosen natural grass cover between the rows of vines to preserve the biological balance of the soils on which the vines grow and to avoid any chemical pesticide, fertilizer, or weed-killer.

We have opted for reduced use of copper sulfate in favor of infusions of equisetum, dandelions, and nettles that are skillfully applied at the right moment in the vegetative cycle.
